Knee joint replacement surgery

Knee joint replacement surgery in Mexicali

It is surgery to replace a knee joint with an artificial joint, called a prosthesis.

During knee replacement surgery in Mexicali, the damaged cartilage and bone of the knee joint are removed. Then, artificial pieces are placed, called prosthetic knee.

These pieces can be placed up to three surfaces of the knee joint:

  • The lower end of the thighbone, called the femur. The replacement part is usually metal.
  • The top of the shinbone end, the large bone in the leg, called the tibia. The replacement part is generally made of metal and strong plastic.
  • The back side of the kneecap (patella). The replacement part is usually made of a strong plastic.

You will not feel any pain during surgery because they apply one of the two types of anesthesia:

  • General anesthesia. This means you will be asleep and feel no pain.
  • Regional anesthesia (epidural or spinal). You will apply a medication into your back to make you numb from the waist down. Medication for sedation will get well. You can also get a drug that will make you forget the procedure, although you are not completely asleep.

After you receive anesthesia, board certified orthopedic surgeon Dr. Juan Alvarez-Garnier will make an incision over the knee to open it. This cut is often 8 to 10 inches long. Then the surgeon:

  • He will separate the patella and cut the ends of the femur and tibia (lower leg) to accommodate the replacement part.
  • He will cut the bottom of the kneecap to prepare it for new pieces that will be attached there.
  • Fasten the two parts of the prosthesis to the bone. One part will be attached to the end of the femur and the other will be attached to the end of the tibia.
  • Both parties will be stuck to the bottom of the patella using a special bone cement.
  • Repair the muscles and tendons around the new joint and close the surgical incision.

The surgery usually takes about two hours.

Usually, artificial knees have both metal and plastic parts. Currently, some surgeons use several different materials, including metal on metal, ceramic on ceramic, or ceramic on plastic.

The results of a total knee replacement in Mexicali at Hispano Americano Hospital are often excellent. The operation relieves pain in most people and most of them do not need help walking after they fully recover.

Most artificial knee joints last 10 to 15 years. Some last up to 20 years before they loosen and need to be replaced again.

Spinal fusion surgery in Mexicali

Spinal fusion surgery in Mexicali

Spinal fusion is surgery of the spine to stop pain. During this procedure, the doctor makes a surgical cut to view the spine. This can be done in two ways:
  1. On the back or neck over the spine. You will lie down. Muscles and tissue are separated to expose the spine.
  2. On one side of the abdomen if you are due to have surgery in the lumbar region. The surgeon will use tools called spacers to hold and hold the soft tissues and blood vessels smoothly, and have room to work.
If you had chronic back pain before spinal surgery in Mexicali, you will probably continue to have some pain afterwards but severe pain is greatly reduced, specially when surgery is performed by an expert physician. It is unlikely that spinal fusion eliminates all the pain and other symptoms. It is difficult for the surgeon to always predict which patients will improve and how much relief surgery will provide, even when MRI or other tests are used.

Losing weight and exercising will increase the likelihood of feeling better.

After spinal surgery in Mexicali, the merged area can not move back. Therefore, the spine above and below the fusion is more likely to be stressed when the spine moves and can have problems later.

Spinal fusion in Mexicali is performed by board certified surgeon Dr. Juan Carlos Alvarez Garnier, head of the Orthopedics Department at Hispano Americano Hospital in Mexicali, Mexico. He has an impeccable reputation and a strong track record. Dr. Alvarez Garnier has performed hundreds of back surgeries on patients from the region and places such as Southern California, Fresno, Las Vegas, Yuma, Tucson and beyond.

Rhizotomy in Mexico

Rhizotomy in Mexico

Selective dorsal rhizotomy is an irreversible surgical technique used to decrease spasticity in the muscles, especially when the patient complains of severe pain.
The technique involves surgical interruption of nerve endings from reaching the spinal cord to muscles affected by spasticity. It is usually done in children aged 2-3 years to 8-10 years and it is done with general anesthesia.
In other words, selective dorsal rhizotomy in Mexico turns spastic paralysis into flaccid paralysis and is an irreversible process because some of the nerve endings roots from the spinal cord are cut permanently. After the operation, the patient has to remain under observation and must be subjected to careful post rehabilitative intervention phase to strengthen the muscle tone as possible.
This procedure can cause complications, some linked to the need to undergo anesthesia and some others due to the nature of the operation, among which is the remote possibility of damage to the nerve endings adjacent to those to be cut.

Selective dorsal rhizotomy in Mexico is both safe and affordable for thousands of American patients without a proper insurante plan. Hispano Americano Hospital in Mexicali, Mexico, has one of the most comprehensive teams of specialists led by board certified surgeon Dr. Juan Carlos Alvarez Garnier. We also have the most innovative equipment to ensure the best care and recovery of our patients.
Selective dorsal rhizotomy in Mexico is not a healing method of spasticity, but reduces the muscle tone of the paralyzed muscles and, consequently, the respective painful sensations caused by muscle spasms and contractions. For many patients this may mean a significant improvement in their quality of life.
